Dishwasher not draining
Is there standing water at the bottom of your dishwasher after a cycle? Many homeowners notice it when the kitchen already smells a little stale. A clogged filter, a drain hose, a disposal knockout, or a failed pump are the usual causes.
You can often clear a simple clog yourself. If the water comes back, the pump or the hose path is the visit. Vinegar will not fix a dead pump, though it can help with odour after the water is gone.
How to fix a dishwasher that will not drain
Remove the bottom rack and scoop or towel out the standing water. Twist out the filter at the bottom of the tub and rinse it under warm water. Check the hole under the filter for a seed, a piece of glass, or a label that never made it through.
Look under the sink where the hose meets the disposal or the drain. If the dishwasher was just installed on a new disposal, the knockout plug inside the disposal inlet is a common miss. Confirm the hose has a high loop so dirty water cannot run back into the tub.
When there is no obvious blockage
If the filter is clean and the hose is open, the drain pump or the drain valve may have failed. We pull the dishwasher far enough to see the hose, quote the part, and only start work you approve. Kickplate leaks after a drain fault are the same visit.
Bosch E24 and LG OE are drain-path codes. The code names the path. The repair is still a test of the pump and the hose in your kitchen. Match the display to our error-code posts if you have one.
Is it worth repairing a dishwasher that will not drain?
Often yes. A filter, hose, or pump job is usually well below a new dishwasher. Many dishwasher repairs fall between $150 and $300 after diagnosis is credited on a completed job. A control board or a sealed circulation part can sit higher, and we quote that first.
If you have already cleaned the filter twice and the tub refills, stop scooping. Repeated drain cycles will not clear a dead pump. Call 416-800-9206 and we will take a look before the cabinet floor stays wet.
