We test the machine where it sits and tell you which part failed, in plain words. You approve the parts-and-labour price before we start. We repair that part. We do not replace the control board, the computer that runs the cycle, unless the test shows it is the fault.

If you book the repair, the diagnosis fee is applied to the job. Finished work includes a 3-month warranty. If the quote is close to the price of a new machine, we say so before you approve.

Common problems we see

• Runs but will not heat

  The drum turns and the clothes still come out cold. On an electric dryer we check that power is reaching the heater, then the heating element and the safety fuse that opens when the dryer gets too hot. A blown fuse often means the vent was blocked. We replace the failed part and clear the lint we can reach so the new fuse does not open next week.

• Gas dryer clicks or will not ignite

  The igniter is the part that lights the gas. A weak one glows and never opens the gas valve. A supply valve that was closed after a move can look like a dead dryer. We confirm gas is reaching the valve and quote the failed piece. If you smell gas, shut the supply and open a window. That visit comes first.

• Drum will not turn — belt, rollers, or motor

  A snapped belt leaves the motor humming while the drum stays still. Worn rollers, the wheels the drum sits on, will squeal. A failed motor will not turn the drum at all. We open the cabinet and replace what is worn, so you are not calling again next month for the next dry roller.

• Takes two or three cycles to dry

  Long dry times with heat still present are often a crushed flex hose behind a stacked unit or a lint-packed vent run — common in Toronto. We inspect the visible vent and tell you if the building run needs a separate clean. A new element will not fix a blocked pipe.

• Burning smell or the dryer shuts off hot

  Lint on the element or a failing motor bearing will smell like burning. We unplug and inspect. If the cabinet is packed with lint or the thermostat is welded shut, we stop the dryer and explain why. That is for safety in your home, not for finishing the cycle at any cost.

What to expect on the visit

   Tell us electric or gas, and whether the dryer is stacked. A photo of the model tag on the door frame helps. In condos, the vent often goes into a shared chase — we need access to the back of the stack if the hose is crushed.

   We test heat at the drum, continuity on the thermal parts, and airflow at the vent. If the element, fuse, belt, or igniter is on the truck, we finish that day and run a heat test before we leave.

Cost and when to repair or replace

Elements, thermostats, belts, and fuses are common and usually cheaper than a new dryer. Gas igniters are a similar story. You get a parts-and-labour quote before we replace anything. Diagnosis is credited on a completed repair.

If the drum bearings, motor, or a cracked drum on a 12-year-old unit push the quote high, we recommend replacement instead of stacking repairs. A dryer that has already overheated from a blocked vent needs the vent fixed, or the next element will fail too.
