What is going wrong with Jenn-Air appliances right now
Jenn-Air made its name on downdraft. Island cooktops and ranges without a hood still use that fan. The recent pattern is not a new mystery. The vent path is full. The fan howls. Suction at the grate is weak. People replace the motor and the noise comes back because the grease was never cleaned. We open the path, clean what we can, and then decide if the motor is actually failed.
Jenn-Air also sits in the Whirlpool family. Wall ovens, elements, and some refrigeration share parts we already carry. That helps on an oven that will not heat. It does not make a downdraft into a normal range hood. The duct can run through a cabinet to the outside, or it can dump into a filter that has not been washed in years. We follow that duct rather than guess from the living room.

A weak downdraft is usually grease on the wheel, a packed filter, a crushed duct, or a motor that has lost speed. We pull the grate and the filter, inspect the wheel, and test suction. A noisy fan is a worn bearing or a blade hitting grease. Cleaning first is how we avoid selling you a motor you do not need.
Gas downdraft cooktops add igniters and valves. Electric models add elements and infinite switches. We service those after the vent is honest, because a cooktop that smokes the kitchen may only be a dead fan. Please do not run a greasy downdraft on high hoping it will clear. That is how motors overheat.
Island installs in open-plan Toronto homes have long ducts. A sag or a crushed section under the floor will starve the fan. We tell you if the building path is the real restriction so you are not buying a motor for a duct.
Jenn-Air ovens, fridges, and dishwashers
Wall ovens that will not heat get a sensor and element test, same family as other Whirlpool-platform ovens. We still treat the visit as Jenn-Air because the console and the trim are specific. A cooktop element that stays cold is often the switch.
Built-in refrigeration in this line fails at fans and defrost like other premium boxes. Dishwashers that will not drain get the filter and the pump. Those are secondary to the downdraft on our routes, but we repair them on the same stop when you book the suite.
What you can try before a visit
Remove the downdraft grate and wash the filter if it is meant to come out. Wipe visible grease. Run the fan and listen. If it screams or does nothing, stop. For a gas burner that will not light, dry the cap after a spill. For an oven, use a thermometer on a bake cycle.
Please do not pour degreaser down a duct you cannot see. Please do not take the cooktop off the gas line to see the fan.
